The Bang and Olufsen BeoMic BM3 Microphone (Band Mikrofon - 3) is legendary. This vintage BM3 Ribbon Velocity microphone has the Dynaco label (Philadelphia Pennsylvania) and dates to the mid-1950's to 1960's. It is in excellent conditions as the pictures will attest. It comes WITHOUT a cable or a stand. (Sorry, that's how I got it.)
It sounds lovely on acoustic guitar although Louis Armstrong sang and the Queen of England decreed through it (pictures below). This microphone inspired Royer and they copied this design on their R-121 / 122 series. Stephen Sank likes to replace this ribbon.
He says
"Installation of RCA 44-BX ribbon into all B&O ribbon mics, with results firmly in "Oh my God!" territory. Turns a B&O into something so close to a 44-BX, it is difficult to tell the difference. Priced at $150 for Mono models."
Beoworld States:
Manufactured: 1955 - 1966 Designer: Erik
Rørbæk Madsen Bang & Olufsen Beomic 3 (150 ohms) and Beomic 4 (multi- impedance) models were
pressure-gradient full-bass microphones with a perfect figure-eight directional
pattern.
Features: No resonance peaks. Extremely smooth response. Bi-Directional - no side pickup. No frequency discrimination, front to back. High efficiency
Nu-Metal transformer placed in microphone housing. Switch for muting and
voice/music conditions. The miniature non-corrosive duraluminium ribbon was only
0.0001" thick and its weight only 1.3 mg. This negligible mass prevented any
resonance within the audio range. Shock and blast proof. Ball swivel for tilting
to any position.
