Offered for your consideration is one antique curio. This novel item is likely from the 1930 and is made of a phenolic pre-plastic material, catalin. Both catalin and bakelite were the first plastic like materials produced. It was used in the manufacture of many products. At the time, it was directled at the lower income market as it was fragile and fractured easily. This is probably why bakelite and
catalin jewelry of this era is currently prized as it rarely survived the years.
This lighter compliments my display and accompanies a few of my bakelite microphones and catalin radios. It probably works but it needs a flint and I don't smoke ;) There is a piece broken from the top of the back of the lighter which I've filled with foam.
