Goff's ICU Palm Utility
by Warren S. Goff, DO
A complete interpretation of Arterial and Mixed Venous blood gases generating a p50 value as well. Renal and electrolytes evaluates serum sodium and electrolyte calculations, IV fluids and renal failure. Drug dosing supports Aminoglycosides and Theophyline. Vancomycin is unfinished and is a dead end, sorry. Complete hemodynamic calculations and interpretations are generated based on right heart catheterization or Swan Ganz. Mortality includes only the APACHE II and the Glasgow Coma score. Ventilator calculations are interesting. Nutritional calculations include a conversion of mixed venous blood values to generate a measured REE although one may calculate this as well. The PFT menu will shell to my Pulmonary Function Test interpreter which I have not taken the time to completely port it over from other languages yet. I planned to add an Evidenced Based Medicine calculator developed in VB6.0, but alas.
The dream behind this utility is improved patient survival. As Roger Bone, MD exited this world with a moratorium on Swans, I introduced this tool to optimize ones understanding of the hemodynamics and their clinical application.
The pictures tell the story of this software. This is a medical program which performs extensive and complicated calculations and interprets this information in an expert fashion. I am not releasing this program for general consumption as of yet, as liability issues concern me, especially if there are any mistakes in the code. I will consider sharing the program with others but only on an individual basis at present. I will also share the source code with anyone interested in developing this project further. Email me for further details.
I plan to port this to Windows XP and apply it to my OQO...
